Physical Therapy

If you are in pain from a fracture, sprain or strain, or after surgery or before or after childbirth, physical therapy is a kind of health care that can help you overcome your pain, restore your movement, and get your life back.

At Core Wellness and Physical Therapy, we conduct a thorough assessment of your injury or condition and look at how your pain is impacting your entire body as we search for its source and impact.

We then use a combination of hands-on techniques with exercise to help reduce inflammation and pain, promote healing, and help you regain your range of motion and strength.

Treating Back and Neck Pain

The most common reason people seek physical therapy is because of back or neck pain.

Both conditions can play havoc with our need to work and live actively.

We will work with you to determine the root cause of your pain and discuss with you a recommended treatment plan to help you recover. We also prescribe exercises for you to do between visits so that you can be a partner in your own care.

Alleviating Knee and Shoulder Pain

Both knee and shoulder pain bring more and more people to seek physical therapy as our culture supports a more active and movement-friendly lifestyle.

We will work with you to determine the root cause of your knee and shoulder pain and then combine hands-on therapy with exercises to heal your injury and help you regain stand strength and range of motion.

Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy

If you are constantly running to the bathroom, if pain makes intimate times with your partner uncomfortable, and if things just don’t feel right “down there” after the birth of your baby, you may benefit from pelvic floor physical therapy.

Your pelvic floor is a group of muscles that is important for the stability of your core and its strength and function.

It is a huge problem for many, many people who silently endure instead of going and getting help. We encourage you not to be one of those.

We are specially trained to address a variety of pelvic floor issues and will help you to get back to living your normal life again.

Pelvic floor issues are often the result of pregnancy or childbirth, endometriosis, surgery, abuse, falls, trauma, poor posture, bladder irritants and muscle imbalances. When your body undergoes these changes, sometimes your pelvic floor muscles have to work so hard that they develop knots or become fatigued and lack the strength to do their job.

Physical therapy is a proven treatment for solving many issues related to pelvic floor problems.

Don’t endure and suffer needlessly when you can be helped.

Treating Incontinence

One of the most embarrassing and devastating issues to deal with is either fecal or urinary incontinence.

If you suffer from an unpredictable bladder, do not assume it is just something that has happened and you have to live with it and store up a good supply of adult diapers.

Physical therapy is a means of addressing what is causing your incontinence and fixing it, not just dealing with the problem.

Lack of bladder control stems from a lack of control over the muscles underneath the bladder located in the pelvic floor. More than one-quarter of women at some point in their life are impacted by pelvic floor issues, and several men as well.

We use pelvic floor muscle training as a recognized treatment for many incontinence issues.

“Mama Therapy”

Issues that affect women postpartum, during pregnancy and even before pregnancy are referred to as “Mama Therapy” at Core Wellness and Physical Therapy.

We know that the world we live in places enormous pressure on women to go back to their normal routine and weight as quickly as possible after having a baby, even though your body goes through an enormous change at this time.

While you are still recovering, you find yourself lifting car seats, carrying your baby and resuming a hectic lifestyle that can lead you to chronic pain if you don’t have time to heal and recovery properly.

If you suffer from pelvic instability, low back pain, bladder leakages, diastasis recti and core weakness, physical therapy can help.

You do not want to remember this joyful period of your life as one blocked by pain.

Physical therapy during your pregnancy can help you strengthen your body as it changes and helps avoid some common problems after birth. We use myofascial release, muscle energy techniques, craniosacral releases, acupressure and targeted exercise to help you get through this wonderful time and the challenges it places on your body.

For women in the preconception phase, physical therapy can also be useful in helping your body from becoming blocked both facially and energetically which can negatively impact the necessary components of fertility.

We use a combination of healing touch, myofascial release, craniosacral release, muscle energy techniques, and acupressure to help your body become free of physical or energetic congestion, moving it to be more apt for enhanced fertility.

Being a mama in all its stages is challenging both emotionally and physically. That’s why we developed our “Mama Therapy” to get you through it.

Sports Injuries

At Core Wellness and Physical Therapy, we treat recreational athletes of all ages and levels of expertise who have sustained sports injuries.

Our goal is to determine the cause of the injury, reduce pain and inflammation and begin the healing process. We also work to educate you so you can prevent recurring injuries. We do not buy into the theory of "run through the pain" or "no pain no gain" because that is the formula for more serious injuries.

We will recommend exercises and stretches to improve your strength and endurance, providing hands on techniques to loosen adhesions and tailor your treatment to fit your specific goals.

Our technique is particularly useful for seasoned runners and athletes who want to prevent injuries or treat a nagging new pain and new moms who want to get back to movement while realizing their strength and stability has altered. It is also useful for individuals who don't know where to start or get hurt when they try to exercise.

Craniosacral Release

If you suffer from chronic neck and back pain, migraines and headaches and stress and tension-related disorders, craniosacral therapy may work well for you.

It is a gentle-hands-on approach that releases tensions deep in your body to relieve pain and dysfunction and improve whole body health and wellness.

We use a soft touch and release restrictions in the soft tissues that surround the central nervous system. We are conscious that the central nervous system is heavily influenced by the craniosacral system – the membranes and fluid that surround, protect, and nourish the brain and spinal cord.

Every day your body endures stresses and strains that it needs to overcome. They changes often cause body tissues to tighten and distort the craniosacral system. These distortions can then cause tension to form around the brain and spinal cord, resulting in restrictions anywhere in the body. This can create resistance to the health of the central nervous system, and potentially every other system it interacts with.

These restrictions can be detected and corrected using simple methods of touch. With a light touch, we use our hands to evaluate the craniosacral system by gently feeling various locations of the body to test for the ease of motion and rhythm of the cerebrospinal fluid pulsing around the brain and spinal cord. Soft-touch techniques are then used to release restrictions in any tissues influencing the craniosacral system. This normalizes the environment around the brain and spinal cord, and enhancing the body’s ability to self-correct.

Myofascial Release

Living with chronic or acute pain can color everything in your life. It makes your world smaller as you try harder and harder to live easier to survive with the pain that competes for your attention with every other aspect of your day and night.

If you have endured this kind of pain, you may benefit from a therapy we offer called myofascial release.

The experience of receiving this hands-on therapy is pleasant; you will feel like a softening, pulsing, wave or heat. It is normal that you might feel a little soreness afterward, but as your fascia unwinds, your body will begin to heal.

If you are not sure what your fascia is, it is that tough, connective tissue that runs throughout your entire body and surrounds and infuses every part of your body including your bones, arteries, spinal cord, nerves, organs and cells. It has no beginning and no end, so if one part of it tightens, it can cause pain in another part of the body.

That is why at Core Wellness and Physical Therapy we insist on treating your body holistically as a whole entity, and not focus just on the part where you feel the hurt.

Myofascial release is especially helpful in treating you if you suffer from neck pain, back pain, hip pain, knee pain, shoulder pain, head pain or Temporomandibular Disorder. In the process of receiving it, your tissues elongate and proper alignment is restored.

Dry Needling

If you suffer from muscle strain, tendonitis, osteoarthritis, headaches, chronic pain, pelvic disorders, neck pain, neurological disorders, spinal dysfunction, bursitis, decreased range of motion, sciatic, low back pain or myofascial pain syndrome, you may benefit from dry needling.

This is a technique where our specially trained physical therapists insert a thin filament needle into the muscle directly at a myofascial trigger point to break up restrictions that could be causing the pain and limiting your motion.

When the needle is inserted, it causes the muscles to contract and release, and often that releases the tightness and pain.

It is not the same as acupuncture despite the fact that it also involves inserting needles.

Visceral Manipulation

The body has an amazing way of protecting the organs. Sometimes, restictions in the abdominal organs can pull on different parts of the body causing pain. This can lead to pain in the body as well as gastrointestinal issues. By opening up the restrictions around the organs, the body won't have to play tug of war and can allow for optimal performance.

This subtle technique goes hand in hand with myofascial release in helping guide your body to let go of restictions in and around the organs.

NES Health BioEnergetiX WellNES System

The NES Health BioEnergetiX WellNES System is a great way to tap into and correct energetic blockages of the human system.

NES Health are the leaders in bioenergetics: the study, detection and correction of energy in living systems. They have spent decades mapping out the energy and communication systems of the body. Collectively, these systems are called the human body-field, which acts as a control system for the body's physical activity.

What does this mean for you?The scanning software is able to detect any underlying distortions in the human body-field. In particular, I've seen an increase in under-powered or distorted fields related to the immune system thanks to the NES Health scanner. When combined with NES' revolutionary software, the scanner can addresses immunity and can provide ways to support-- especially during these stressful times. I've realized that the timing for introducing this bioenergetic system into my clinic couldn't be more perfect. I can continue to support my own health that of my family and clients, and all this can be done remotely or integrated into your current treatment to help supplement the progress.
